Frequently Asked Questions
and Frequently Given Answers |
Many actual questions we have heard over the years and some here are actual answers given.
"What
did you do before you got into resorting?"
We were self employed and
lived in Lakeville, MN.
"Do
you stay here year-around?"
Yes, this is our home.
"What
do you do in the winter time?"
Sleep more, eat together,
build stuff, think spring.
"How
many boys do you have?"
Three: (My Three Sons).
"How
large is your lake?"
Upper
Cullen Lake is 435 acres, 1-1/4 miles across and 40 feet deep and is
part of the 3-lake Cullen Chain totaling 1329 acres.
"Why
don't you allow Jet Skis?"
Ok-this is a HOT issue.
Upper Cullen Lake is a medium to small size lake with mostly undeveloped
shoreline and lots of wildlife. In the early spring we occasionally
see a group of Swans and other exotic wildlife enjoying the peacefulness
of the lake. In summer, we have many loon families and duck species
as summer residents. Upper Cullen's littoral area is 69% of it's
435 acres. Many of our newer guests can't believe a "wilderness style"
lake like ours exists here in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Our guests
over the years have made their desires known regarding the use of personal
watercraft on this lake. In addition to the peaceful atmosphere we
try to provide, we also value the rights of our neighboring property owners
to enjoy the lake. Based on our personal beliefs, the stated concerns
of many of our guests and in consideration of our neighbors, we do not
allow personal watercraft to be launched from, docked at or used from the
resort property or our shore at our resort. We hope you understand
this policy and the many reasons for it.
"Why
don't you allow pets?"
We are pet owners ourselves, two
dogs, two cats. They stay in our house all summer. Our cabins
are simply too nice to risk damage, excess cleaning of pet residue and
other problems caused by having a pet in the cabin for a week or more.
In our years here we have seen many similar resorts stop allowing pets
and many more would like to, but fear the loss of business as a result.
That a resort has to accept pets to stay full says something too.
We have never seen any area resort begin a policy of taking pets.
Most of our guests would not find our cabin accommodations suitable for
their family if we were to allow a pet in that cabin prior to their occupancy.
The risk of spreading pet diseases, animal hair and parasites and sustaining
damage to our cabin furnishings is not an acceptable risk to us.
Our own dogs are not allowed into our
cabins for obvious reasons. By the way, they agree with our policy
completely.
"How's
the fishing?"
Well, usually you need
a hook and bait. Our lake has abundant supplies of Northern, Bass,
Sunnies, Crappies. Walleye is present but limited-as is the case
in all Minnesota lakes not designated as an official "Walleye Lake".
Sorry, NO Muskie, Shark or Tuna.
"Where's
the best place to fish?"
In the lake. Kidding!
We have lake maps available and will be happy to help you find the fish
you are looking for. Ask for Matt for this help.
"Does
a boat come with my cabin?"
Our rates reflect our desire
to charge only for services and amenities received. Many guests bring
their own boats with them when they stay here so 15 years ago, we removed the
"hidden"
charge for a "free boat" from our rates and charge only if a boat is
used. We deeply discount
our boat rental rates
for our cabin guests. An aluminum fishing boat is available with
your cabin rental. Motors and a pontoon boat are available for rent
too if you wish to have one.
"What's
your swimming beach like?"
Lots of water, sand bottom,
gradual slope, no drop-offs, roped with a swim raft for advanced swimmers.
"Can
I launch and dock my boat there?"
Yes. We own the only
boat ramp on the lake and have plenty of dock space for most boats.
There is no charge for our cabin guests to use our launch ramp for their
first boat. Dock space for one boat per cabin is also provided
at no charge. We can assist you with a front hitch John Deere tractor
for those "difficult" launches.
"What
is included in your cabin rentals and what do I need to bring from home?"
Your air conditioned cabin comes complete
with Microwave, Drip Coffee Maker, All Basic Kitchen Utensils, Refrigerator,
Stove, Eating Utensils, Cable TV, all Bed Linens, Blankets, Pillows, Fan,
Toaster, AIR CONDITIONING with Heater. You WILL need to bring your own Soap,
Towels and anything else you might need of a personal nature.
"What's
your place like?"
How much time do
you have?
(Obviously,
this person has not visited our Web Site).
"What
number is this?
I don't know, I can't see
it over the phone.
